It all started back in 1998, when Steve and Sharon Armstrong decided to start their own business. For over 25 years, Design & Cut Landscape Services, Inc. has thrived in the landscaping industry by working closely with its clients and producing top of the line service.
Steve, DCLS Chief Operating Officer, was introduced to landscaping by working during the summers of high school. After graduating from Florida State University in Finance, he started working at Stiles Corporation in 1987 as an Estimator in Landscape and Lawn Maintenance. Steve became Vice President of the division after 5 years of working up the ranks and maintained his role for another 6 successful years.
Longing to start a business with his wife, Sharon, Steve went to the head of Stiles and presented him with a package to take over some of the jobs that Stiles was letting go. Because of this crucial deal, Design & Cut Landscape Services, Inc. was able to hit the ground running.
Starting with just 1 truck, 1 trailer, and a small crew, DCLS now has 8 trucks, a bucket truck, an irrigation service van, and 6 crews. Thanks to the countless satisfied customers, word spread throughout the community and continues to do so today. Working closely with clients, building professional relationships, and producing satisfying results are the main goals of DCLS. So much so, that 90% of the original clients back in 1998 are still with DCLS today!

Stump Grinding
Stump removal involves the use of a grinding machine to efficiently and delicately eliminate stumps. Initially, the stump is ground into small, mulch-like pieces using a stump grinder. Once the stump has been reduced to just a few inches below the ground surface, the remaining portion is concealed with dirt and dust. Over a brief period, the concealed portion, along with the roots, undergoes natural decay, completing the removal process.

Types of Tree Pruning
Crown Cleaning
Crown cleaning is the removal of dead or dying, broken, diseased, or unhealthy branches, as well as those that cross each other to maintain the trees health.
Crown Raising
This pruning method removes lower branches from a tree to ensure adequate clearance for structures, vehicles, and pedestrians.
Crown Reduction
Effective crown reduction involves the careful pruning of all main limbs and leaders in the outer canopy, trimming them back to well-sized secondary limbs. These secondary limbs then serve to establish the new edges of the canopy and assume the role of primary leaders for the reduced limbs.
Crown Thinning
Crown thinning is the removal of specific branches to alleviate the weight of heavy limbs and enhance the canopy’s openness, promoting better light penetration and air circulation. When done correctly, this practice enhances the overall structure of the tree while preserving its natural shape.

Steve grew up in Ohio before moving down to South Florida with his family as a teenager. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Finance and getting married, Steve decided to join the landscaping industry by working at Stiles Corporation in the Landscaping department. He eventually worked his way up to become the Vice President. Wishing to start their own business, Steve and Sharon started DCLS back in 1998. Steve is in charge of all operations run by his team.
